Memory Garden 2021

Updated: Dec 16, 2021

As many of you will have seen, our Memory Garden is now in place and looking good! We still have some larger shrubs to add around the grassed area and will be doing that as the year progresses.

This has been a fantastic project for me to be involved in. It has been a true team effort and I would like to thank everyone who has given their time to digging and planting (and now watering!). Particular thanks to all those who made suggestions for plants or colours - I have had some lovely conversations with many of you about the loved ones you have lost and what gardens and plants meant to them.

A special thank you also to Pete Goulding who has put an amazing amount of time into landscaping the area and organising the rest of the team.

The project has been mainly funded from the West Heaton 100+ Club along with several cash and plant donations so, again, thanks to all and to Una and Pete for the bird bath – it looks as though it has been there forever.

A memorial bench, donated by friends in memory of Stan Judkins, a long-standing member who passed away in April 2020, is now in place. We felt it would be a beautiful addition to the garden area and are sure it will be well used.

I hope the garden will bring a smile to the faces of all those who pass by and fond memories to all of you who have lost a loved one, especially in the last year or so.

My very best wishes to all,

Jo Taylor – Club President
